Maximilian gotz remains a strong contender for the 2012 ADAC GT masters title. The uffenheim driver and his teammate sebastian asch finished second and fourth at the lausitzring in the mercedes SLS flugelturer. The duo improved to second place in the overall standings. "We put in two very good races in lausitz and were once again the fastest mercedes team. The gap to the top is 25 places. Now we can go all out," gotz commented after the race weekend in the lausitz region.
Gotz and asch have fond memories of the 4.534-kilometer circuit at the gates of dresden. Last year, asch – then still in a porsche – won the first race. Afterwards, the MS racing team celebrated victory in sunday’s second race. Good omens, then, for a successful race weekend. Gotz/asch first set the fastest practice time in the mercedes SLS AMG GT3 in 1:46.046 minutes. In the two qualifying sessions they steered their car to fifth place on the grid.
Asch got off to a good start in saturday’s race. Twice, however, the safety car had to pull out. The second time the front runners pitted together, and the changeover from asch to gotz was perfect. Behind the safety car, the 26-year-old took to the track in second place. In the final phase, gotz and the driving porsche engaged in a fierce duel for the win – and gotz was only narrowly beaten.
"The duel with nick tandy was very fair. With a view to the championship, however, it was important for me not to risk too much. I was able to sit next to the porsche, but it was always on the better line when accelerating out of the race. The good pit stop was the key to success," said gotz after the exciting race.
In sunday’s race gotz took to the track from the third row in fifth place. After a good start, the driver from uffenheim finished in fourth place. Shortly before the pit stop and the driver change gotz improved to position three. "I was very close the last two laps," said gotz in an interview with tv station kabel1. Sebastian asch took over and gave himself an exciting four-way fight for the podium places. In fourth place gotz/asch, who once again drove the fastest mercedes, narrowly missed out on another podium place.
As runners-up in the overall standings, gotz/asch still have every chance of winning the ADAC GT masters title. On the nurburgring, from 14. Up to 16. September the course is already set for the championship race. The eagerly awaited season finale will take place at the hockenheimring from 28th to 28th september. Up to 30. September. Maxi gotz and sebastian asch seem well prepared for the final chord.
